Kaiāulu o Kūku′ia will be divided into three neighborhoods that will be distinguished by color palette, architectural details, landscaping, and gathering areas.
The overarching theme will be in keeping with the greater community of Lahaina. Lahaina’s plantation-style of architecture will inform the development’s architectural style.Though inspired by historic plantation architecture, materials will be selected for durability and to meet LEED for Home standards.
The 200 apartment homes in the neighborhoods will consist of twenty-five 2-story eight-plex buildings with 100 two-bedroom, 75 three-bedroom and 25 four-bedroom units of affordable workforce housing for families in West Maui County earning 60% or less of the median income.
The community will be sustainable and energy efficient with cost savings for residents. There will be two large community centers on-site with kitchens, tech centers, game rooms and lanai dining, offering services and on-site management. Site amenities will include playgrounds, BBQ-picnic areas, community gardens, walking paths throughout, laundry facilities and ample on-site parking. Units will have energy star appliances, LED energy star lighting, hard surface flooring, solar water heating, water wise plumbing fixtures and ceiling fans throughout.
